(109) 18/7/1936 Chantongia. The morning was foggy but dry. At first I had a look at the upper khel of Chantongia which is almost entirely christian and does not have a morung. A ficus tree stands near the gate of the main village and its aerial roots are carefully led towards the ground with the aid of bamboo poles. There they take root and eventually form thick trunks which diagonally lead up to the main trunk. (See Mills 'Ao Nagas' p. 73). Again Tsampio and the coolies had gone ahead. I followed with Nlamo. |
