a large ceremony of whole village, taboos |

The Lai-pham-bu on the other hand is a genna which is kept on the same day by the entire village. Working on the fields is prohibited although people may leave the village to get wood or to hunt. To visit another village however is genna. It is also prohibited for people from other villages to enter a Shiong household today. If they come into the village at all they have to stay in the morung and may not leave Shiong again on the same day. However this does not apply to people from Wakching because Shiong is on Wakching land and therefore they are not considered strangers. For me too an exception was made and I even sat in Ahon's house during the actual ceremony. |
