My skin begins to turn red and the sun burns straight down without relief. I jump across some smaller dams. In front of a big one stand several girls up to their middles in water. I circumvent it on the left shore and do not consider that thereby I move to Uncontrolled Territory, that is out of British India. Earlier also this idea had not occurred to me when I moved around on this side of the river. Longingly I look out for shade and a place to rest but nothing of the sort is to be seen. In a bend of the river are some people from Shiong and Ahon greets me laughing about my appearance. Deeper water makes it possible to swim here and I rest a bit under an overgrown rock while holding on to an overhanging root. |
