Panso falls into two khels which are about half a mile apart from each other. From our camp (23) after a walk of about ten minutes we reach a point from where we can look down onto the larger khel. Many houses stand closely huddled together. I have been wrong too many times so I do not even attempt to guess their number. Our visit apparently is expected with excitement as even from here we see movement of groups and the tall wooden platforms which stand between the houses here and there are to the breaking point full of curious spectators. We go down into the village past fenced-in bamboo stands. The entrance leads though a sort of arbored passage of creepers growing along wooden trellis. If the village is in danger the trellis support is cut down and an impassable wall of prickly bushes falls onto the path. |
