processions of morungs with gongs as head arrives in Wakching |
text: |
Slowly now the five processions of the separate morungs begin to move. (87) In front are the older men, the clan elder carries the head. They had put less effort into their dress than the younger people but here and there a pair of the thin 'buffalo horns' enhances the owner. I saw the procession go by on the place next to the Balang. Older men and boys were beating gongs while the young warriors were brandishing weapons. Each of the morungs first went to the Ang's house but of that there only remain two half charcoaled posts while Chinkak is living in a poor, dilapidated house. But the place with the genna once immediately in front of the Ang house had been cleared of at least the worst bushes and weeds. |
