In the morning I went up to the village of Kohima together with the Macdonald girl. It is even uglier than I remembered it. The tin roofs are almost in the majority and the people are wearing all sorts of foreign dress. To my delight I saw a good forked post leaning against the wall of a house. I could set it up further to the front and take a picture of it. It was about 1 metre high and very flat. Such posts are made for one of the feasts of merit. (147) In the evening there was a dinner party at Mills with the Commissioner and Mrs Walker and Captain Gerty and Mrs Gerty who is pretty and charming. |
