(242) We are having a lot of fun along the way, especially when we talk about our age and Shankok seriously insists that he is about fifty year's old. He thinks his brother Chinyang is over twenty which he calculates by his entrance into the morung and the then following planting periods of eight years each. Yet Chinyang is hardly more than fourteen and Shankok about twenty-five as results from his age at the time of the takeover of the Konyak territory. We arrive in Chingtang by half past nine. There is little sign of life in the houses and the one morung we pass. A few people are sitting on their platforms but most of them are in their houses and are enjoying the meat of the pigs killed yesterday. There is a large number of Thepong people here especially of small boys. Some Chingtang women who have married to Wakching also have come home for the Oulingbu. |
