Against this tradition however stands the opinion that they had come from the Assam plains up the Dikhu River and then to Wakching along the Buang-lem, the "Path of the Elders" which leads to the Dikhu between the trail to Wanching and the bridle path to Kongan. The people themselves solved this problem by saying that they came to the plains from the land of the Ao and from there then went into these hills. It is very likely that this is how it actually happened. To the question of how this however coincides with the tradition of a migration via Hanching, Choha etc. they have no other reply than that the people of Wakching came together from different sides. They say that the people of Namsang had come from Lai-niu, the land of the Ao, and were not genuine Konyak. |
