As Kauffmann still is not feeling quite well he gave up his plan of going to Hungphoi and Oting and returned to Wakching with me today. In the morning we bought some things in Longkhai, among others brass imitations of shells worn around the neck which are made in the distant village, Longwa (on the map Lungva Tingui). The greatest artist of this village who also made beautiful small brass beads recently was treacherously murdered by men from Sheangha. He had spent the night in their village which is at peace with Longwa and wanted to go on to Totok, but along the way he was ambushed by Sheangha men who took his head. |
