Actually they should have done this today but yesterday men from Anaki had come for a visit and they had danced all night in the morung with the Bala girls. The people from Anaki brought a red Ao cloth for the Bala which is supposed to be a compensation given instead of the help they should have given the Bala morung when it burnt down last year. At the time Namsang had helped rebuilding but Anaki had not. (66) Now about twenty people had come from Anaki, people from both morungs, that is Konyaks as well as Ao. At the dance they joined the Bala girls in a mixed group. In addition they gave a spear to each of the four other Wakching morungs. The Bala will probably keep the cloth rather than sell it for money as they themselves have to give this kind of cloth as a present on some occasions such as the death of the Ang of Wanching or Chingphoi. |
