Soon after midday I went in to Chinyang's house. He was sitting near the hearth where a big pot with huge pieces of pork was cooking. Apart from his wife there were two younger women. It was [] from Tanhai who is married to [] of the Balang and her sister who is married in Tanhai and had come to visit her. [] father is a friend of Chinyang and he had asked him to look after his daughter in Wakching (82) and so, to speak, take on the father's role. As Tanhai is too far away to keep an eye on the events in Wakching, he himself cannot look after his daughter enough. Chinyang now sees to it that she is treated well in her husband's house and in the event of a serious disagreement he would take her in and then would have the right to a possible fine which otherwise would go to the father. |
