setting off for Chingphoi |

Around nine o'clock I left accompanied by six coolies and Metlou. Many people were on their way to the fields where several gangs of morung boys were already weeding. The Oukheang boys go with the Balang girls. Some Angban boys go with girls of the Thepong but Bala has no mixed gangs at the moment. (114) On the one hand there are only a few unmarried girls in the Bala at the moment and the married women help on their husband's fields. On the other hand the disagreement with the Thepong which is quite old by now interferes with the usual relationships between the boys and girls of both morungs. Metlou said that last year Thepong and Bala boys and girls had worked together. |
