Today was a humid, oppressive day. I woke up already feeling nervous and not in a good mood and I did not accomplish much all day. Soon after breakfast the Ang came, together with Limnia, the oldest man of the Angban. The later agreed to fasten the great wooden horns to the Pangsha heads (184) but he did not want to make the holes necessary for them. This was Yonglong's job, the Niengba of the Oukheang. He showed up soon together with Yanmong, the smith, and agreed to make the holes. But at first the matter almost seemed to fail due to the question of price as Yonglong initially wanted six rupees. But finally he did it for less and the whole job cost me no more than four rupees including bakshish. The two went to work on the lawn in front of my bungalow and using a photograph as a model they fastened the horns just as we had seen it in Yimpang on the heads on the poles of the skull tree |
