(51) The Namsang people came from Lai-niu (from the Ao land) - the Wakching men say that they are not real Konyaks. Maikokwemniu - the great gourd out of which all men and beasts came. Ghawang divided the earth among them. Another story is that men came out of Yangwem-ou-niu, an enormous bird. When he died he gave to men and animals their speech, but not for himself, but only as a mediation for Ghawang. Only the Ou-shim was now present when he died, therefore this bird received no speech (52) and makes only, "m-m". |
