origins of Tanhai people and humans ; great flood |
text: |
The Tanhai people came not from Yenyudang, but along the Dikhu from Assam and stayed first at Chinglong. They say the Wakching people came also that way, while the Kongan people came from Yenyudang. The first people were very small. They were called Anaudankoli. One Anaudankoli and one tiger came first out of the Maikokwemniu. Anaudankoli came out with (54) a dao and a spear. The tiger only with his teeth and claws. Then the Konyaks came out as many as they are. How Anaudankoli, who was alone, multiplied, is not known. It is said that when all men will have died, again an Anaudankoli will come forth. Ghawang was before all men. |

(55) During the great flood, only the top of Puniuhung remained dry. There a python lay (python = puniu) and survived the flood. One man came to that place and sat down with the snake. All other men were drowned. How this one man could then propagate the human race is not known. |
