text: Halted at Dikhu. Kamahu came in to see me. They told me that Kaolum of Hukpang had just taken a head from their village, though these two villages have never been at war within the memory of man or of tradition. This very much complicates the Yacham question, as if nothing is done to Hukpang, Yacham are almost certain to avenge themselves on Kamahu for having got them fined for their ambush, and it will therefore do more harm than good to Kamahu to punish Yacham for an action which was really, I believe, simply committed to find out how far they could go with impunity.
