Poor condition of bungalow and neglect of duties by Muharrir at Tesangki |

Fine at last - more or less. |

To Tesangki. The path blocked with recent falls of earth and tree in several places. The Inspection Bungalow at Tesangki is being eaten up by white ants. Why the Muharrir did not report this I don't know. The door frame came away while I was in the I.B., and the door fell down. Also I accidentally put my hand through a beam in the bathroom and found that another there was missing entirely. The latrine is a disgusting quagmire and the pit full of water. I shall have to look into the question of the Muharrir's pay, I think. The Sub-Overseer reports ill of him, and says that he told him six months ago to put the door right and that the Muharrir, who is a passed carpenter of the Fuller Technical School and only allowed to work as a Muharrir on condition that he does odd jobs of carpentry when required, has made no attempt to replace the rotten door post. |
