text: To Lakhuni. The bridle path good on the whole except in places where water crosses it, where it is mostly bad, but could be very easily put right. The windows of the Lakhuni Inspection Bungalow are dirty - and the Chaukidar's person dirtier.
text: Here I heard an amusing rumour that the Deputy Commissioner of the Garo Hills had ordered all Garos to wear shorts, and that the Garos were non-cooperating in consequences. If it were true I'd hope they'd win, but it is not to be believed of anyone but a Missionary, for though it is, I believe, a fact that United States American Official ordered all the hill tribes in the Philippines into trousers, I dare say that his interest was in the contract for the supply. Otherwise surely only a Peeping Tom turned prude could be capable of such an order.
