The march to Chekwema; methods of agriculture and house decoration |

To Yekura - a nasty rainy day, Kenoma waiting there with cases. |

To Chekwema (Yangkhulen) via Kenoma. Starting at 5,600 feet, we went down to the Dzula - 4200, then up to Kenoma - 6050. Then down to the Dzupvo - 4250, then to Yangkhulen - 6000. It rained almost the whole time. The millet fields here sown with alders and terraced with logs are extraordinarily like those of the Chagyik Konyaks east of the Yangmun, and in both Kenoma and Chekwema I noticed the priests' houses had naked men carved with buffalo horns on them and a kilt depicted which might well have grown out of the representation of a cane belt. |
