Debts, opium eaters and a gaonbura with a long service record at Piphima |

To Piphima. Renewed gun licenses. Heard one or two cases and complaints. One Piphima man - Mevetha of the lower village, I think, complains that a Nichuguard contractor, one Dalachand Prosad, has owed him Rs.40/- for months but puts him off with "wait a little, I will pay" whenever he asks for payment. Dalachand Prosad vigorously denies owing anyone anything, but I don't feel very sure about him. |

Thepfusale the old Gaonbura of Chipama who claims to date his service from before 1880 has asked for a salaami cloth. If he is still alive when I can verify his statement in office I will send him one. He is too old to come for one. |

Lhulasie the opium-eater is dead. His wife Khuno is now without opium and in a parlous state. She says that Lhulasie had 4 tolas a month of which she got half. She did not eat opium before she married him comparatively recently. I have told her that if she comes to Kohima she can have a pass for say 1-and-a-half tolas. |
