Problems of timekeeping by gatekeepers at Dimapur |
text: |
Left Dimapur at 5.30 by lorry and reached Kohima at 9.0. The gate keepers' watches are irregular and unreliable. I suggest the P.W.D. should purchase one really good chronometer and have a box that will lock and still show the open face. This should be kept at Dimapur and kept right by railway time, and be sent every day by the first lorry that goes to Manipur or by the Mail of course when once it starts - and returned the next day to Dimapur, all gate keepers, including Kohima, setting their kachha clocks by this. Naturally enough they do not like accepting the statements of irresponsible lorry drivers in a hurry to get on and quite capable of putting their watches on on purpose. |
