11th Sept. To Laisong 7 miles. 7-45 - 11.15. By the side of the path near Thungje are the stones set up to commemorate the amorous exploits of Shikamba of that village, who died, a very old man, about ten years ago. At one end is a monolith of appropriate shape and beyond it a double line of ladies's stones, numbering forty in all, excluding a few small ones which denote offspring. |

At Laisong I intercepted the man with the dak. I was expecting further orders from Government, as had I not been wanted in Shillong after all, and had I known here I could have gone down to Jenam and so done part of my tour which I now have to omit. There was nothing, however. |
