In the middle of all this enter the Khullakpa of Chingjaroi, with two elders and a hen. Transpired there was a serious case in the village, and Saknio having told them I was at Kharasom, they came for medicine. Agreed to go, packed up at high speed and were off in about an hour. Made Luikai change. (14) Left at 2.20. Changed coolies at Kuki Chingjaroi. Made Luikai pant on one hill. He complained in the morning I took one stride to his three, which is quite true. Reached Chingjaroi at 5.15. Waited a bit at perao, and then went down to case in Christian village. Sepsis following difficult delivery. We had no douche, but we coped somehow with Dettol and electric torch; house black as cow's tummy. Hot and stuffy and turned me almost faint, so that I had to ask for door to be opened. Compounder stayed in village, I went 2 miles back to perao. Just got in, when 2 xtians came with chit from Jangsang reporting diarrhoea and asking for bicarb, bismuth & bacteriophage. Sent them down, and so, exhausted, to bed. |
