text: Found it cold all night though well covered. The morning was lovely & I got up early, fixed on station, set up theod after driving in strong pegs to prevent the vibration of the peaty ground, although this was now almost unnecessary: wet with the previous rain it was now frozen hard. I got through all the angles with horizontal & vertical & precious lot they were. My hands were like wood from the cold & I cd scarcely at times clamp the instruments. (19) The foundations of a rare bit of work has been laid. Some of the points observed were beyond the Big Peak & that is miles away. Did not finish until past five so that it was dark on getting into camp. Found a dak with the letter I have been looking out for so long also letter from Mother at San Remo & Bee & Arthur at Chilworth.
