Got up early. Finished letters. Decided on remaining at Solachu in order to get rice - do my observations satisfactorily. Sent men up to renew matting early and went up about 8 a.m. when Lakuti was expected visible. Col. Tulloch went up shortly after and kindly recorded for me. Finished observing about 11.15. Went down to camp to breakfast and after did little plane tabling. Had intended going to Juju but thought better of it. Went up to Molotobia and sketched tombs there till about 5. Back to camp. Found the drunken Ao scoundrel from Nankam there. He said he had been travelling about like other sahibs and also like them had arrived at Solachu. Invested the head men of the two Solachus with red cloths. They have been very civil and given us a good (39) deal of rice and not interfered at all with the mark. |

I notice a number of little old fireplaces railed round as in the margin. |

Molotobia is very steeply fortified with two ditches, two double styles and a strong stockade. Solachu also is pretty strongly defended in a similar manner. |
