Up at 5.30. Went up to mark about 6.30 to check Lakuti. Useless on account of great and increasing haze so gave up and went on to Juju and down spur. Back at 11. Found coolies there. Breakfast outside village while Memaram was arranging about rice with Gaonburas. Went into Mokokchung at 12. Sketched morung. Tried to do a deal for cloths. Colonel got two. While waiting mist to go coolies went on Subadar 42nd saying he had no orders to halt. Consequently with last two maunds of rice which naturally the villages declined to bring on to Ungma. Reached latter camp at 3. Gave two [] classis (hindustani) a few blows and transferred table and stand to two Cookies (sic) and skedaddled out about 4 miles to close to the Diku. Got in some excellent work there and back to camp at 6. Bath. Dinner with []. |

Outside Juju was a big tiger stretched on a maichan. It had been there some time. I saw when we passed through before. The flesh had nearly all rotted only the skin and bones stood out in several places. It had been spotted by the villagers one night trying to steal a pig so they turned out with spears and sticks and killed him and put him up there "Namkewaste". |
