About 4 a.m. Nagas from Chimomi came down with 8 goats several fowls eggs and about 4 maunds rice which they brought in when in got light. Nagas from Luphuemi brought in 3 more goats rice eggs. I started about 7.30 and went up to Chimomi. I went out to see how we could go on tomorrow and sent Memaram to look for water. On [] in front tomb saw curious black painting of a dao or spade ? |

Examined drum in village. 29 feet long and 11'1'' circumference. The front a buffalo's head, the back a bird's tail and two toucan beaks (representation in wood). Skulls hang about post in front. (See notebook sketches). We have got beyond interpretation here. |
