(Fine morning. Heavy thunderstorm in afternoon and evening and at night. Road good except where we had to climb up hill without one. Village Aimung at 7 a.m. 4810/4730 M = 4770 about 100 houses. Deserted village at 10 a.m. 4460/4280 M = 4370 about 40 sites. River at 11 a.m. 2310/2250 M = 2280. Nanu at 2.30 p.m. 5560/5330 M = 5445 43 houses. Up early. Nagas brought in a good deal of rice. Sent camp off straight to Nanu and went round by deserted village with Ogle to stream. Breakfast there. After found our way up by waterfalls and precipices to the burnt jungle above the road we had gone down by being only an old fishing path. Overtook camp in village. I sent them to the stream. Went out plane tabling towards Sontak and down to camp about 5. Bath. Lay down with bad toothache till dinner time. |

Men at Aimung etc. affect white cloths principally with black and red stripes alternatively the three colours being about 1 inch apart and 1 inch wide. The centre white stripes about 5 or 6, and profusely ornamented with patches of red about 1 inch square. |

The men of Nanu, Sontak, Lungtum, Yadam, wear white cloths with three black and two red stripes each about 2" broad no white interval arranged as a border with a large vandyke of black and red embroidery above the innermost black stripe. |

Camp a very good one on the river. Only drawback being the rain which made it slippery and the innumerable flies (sandflies). |
