text: 30th November, Wednesday. Marched into Golaghat and was very much disgusted at finding there was no ferry over the Dhanseeree although the ford is still impassable the river being at least 8 feet in depth in the centre of the stream. I have reported the matter to the Assistant Commissioner in charge of the subdivision and I trust the ferry man will be only admonished if not severely punished for this is the second occasion I have had to bring this man to notice. The last occasion I lamed my horse owing to the miserably bad "mar" there was but this time I had to swim my horse and get over myself in a small dug out there was scarcely room to sit in, to stand in it was impossible.
text: Learning that the Commissioner had postponed his departure for Gawhatty to the 2nd instant I presume he will not now arrive in Golaghat until the 17th instant at the very earliest and I shall therefore return to Samaguting as soon as I have succeeded in arranging for more coolies for the road.
