8th March, Wednesday. Halted in order to inspect the Police and their lines etc. The Stockade and the Huts within it have been entirely rebuilt this year, but the guard house and magazine I regret to say are in a miserable condition. However they have been repaired as far as possible and will I trust stand out the rains but next year new buildings will have to be erected. I trust also to obtain sanction for the erection of a small Rest House here the want of which has long been felt. Since [not] a week passes during any portion of the whole year but that the Assistant Commissioner or I visit this station and the want of a good roof over our heads has caused both of us to suffer considerable inconvenience. Indeed I am not at all sure whether the frequent attacks of fever for which we both suffered were not in a great measure due to these trips to Dimapur. Had heavy rain last night. |
