text: 4th October. Marched to Horiojan. Found the road in a terribly jungly condition beyond the Deopani and several portions of it still under water. Feeling rather feverish this evening and have taken some quinine.
text: 5th October. Marched into Dimapur. Road almost impassable on account of the fallen trees, high jungle and broken bridges. Had fever all day and turned into bed at 6 p.m.
text: 6th October. Rode into Samaguting. Road in pretty fair order. Feeling much better to-day.
text: 12th October. Again left Samaguting in order to look after the road. Marched to Dimapur and slept on board the boats I had previously engaged and had prepared to take me over.
text: 13th October. Reached Horiojan about 4 p.m., having started off about 3 a.m.
text: 14th October. Reached Borpothar about 3 p.m. and put up in the Rest House. Very nearly came to grief last night by coming in contact with a huge tree lying across the River which we were unable to see owing to the darkness.
text: 15th October. Rode out to the Deopani and back.
text: 16th October. Out all day at work with the coolies on the road near Deopani.
