9th December. Marched into Horriojan. The whole of this bit of road has also had all the jungle cut and cleared but a great deal requires to be done in the way of new bridges and repairs to old ones. The Rest House also requires some doors very badly, however I fear the funds at my disposal will scarcely be sufficient to let me put them in this year. |

10th December. Marched into Borpathar a very large quantity of work has already been done this year along this portion of the road for not only has the whole of the jungle been cut and cleared but nearly all the bridges have been repaired and in many parts where the road used formerly to run through swampy bheels with 6 and 8 feet of water over the road, I have now cut a new road running over high ground and positively shorter (by actual measurement) than the old road, a considerable quantity of earth has also been put up. |

The Block House has also been put into good repair and I have put up a nice plank partition in lieu of the old ekra one. I have also let two windows into the walls and I am glad to say I can now see to read and write without having to go and sit at the door to be enabled to do so, as used to be the case. |
