4th January. Marched into Kigwemah where we encamped just below the village having passed through Puohamah and Phesamah en route. I had again to avail myself of the Major's dooli today. I had got a rough one rigged up for me at Kohimah but the old Major would insist upon my using his conveyance whilst he made use of mine. This dooli travelling is most disagreeable. One feels so utterly helpless, and I find my thoughts are continually reverting to the jolly time when I got over the ground with the aid of my own legs only and consequently enjoyed the march thoroughly with all the zest that good health and good spirits give one in a country and climate like this. However, I hope I shall soon be all right again. |

I find Austin has left his camp standing at Kigwemah and has gone up to Japoo with only a small party of coolies in order to take up a trigonometrical station there and cut rays to "Paonah" and "Kediubah". |
