28th February. Majors Thongal and Buloram came over to see Thomson today regarding the Rajah's memorial which it appears they had sent direct to Government through their Lawyers Messrs. Saunders Pervers and Upton and which has therefore been returned for submission through the proper channel, namely their Political Agent. I saw nothing of the "Majors" myself but told me this evening this evening that they had made anxious enquiries as to when I was going to leave. He also told me that when he had asked them what meaning the Rajah attached to the term "political" in his memorial where he contends that the 42 boundary line was only a "political boundary and not a territorial one", the Majors replied that all he meant by that was that it was only a boundary made by the Political Agent without the consent of the Rajah. Rather good that, considering the amount of special pleading that has been wasted upon it. |
