text: 1st March. Major Austin and Mr. Ogle left us this morning in order to take up trigonometrical stations in the Manipuri valley itself. This I may add they are doing with the full permission of the Rajah obtained through Thomson.
text: Majors Thongal and Buloram had another lengthy and private interview with Colonel Thomson today regarding the Rajah's memorial.
text: 2nd March. Rode out this morning to Longtabal and saw the ruins of the old palace in which Gumbhir Sing used to live. I also visited the spot where poor Gordon's remains were buried and was extremely disgusted at finding that there was absolutely nothing to mark the grave beyond a few rough stakes, and even these I learn have only been put up very lately by Thomson himself.
text: 3rd March. Went out for an 8 mile canter up the Tumma road.
text: 4th March. Austin rejoined us this evening about 8 p.m. and I was delighted to hear he had succeeded in filling in a good bit more of his plane-table.
