text: 35. The Inner Line was extended during the year in Lakhimpur so as to include the coal-fields of Makum, thereby bringing six Naga, two Duania and four Khampti villages within our territory. The operations of the Assam Railways Company will have a considerable civilising influence among the wild tribes in that region. Nagas from the most remote villages on the Patkoi range are to be found working at the coal-fields, and large numbers are willing to labour if employment be offered to them.
