text: 36. There was, as in previous years, much bloodshed among the Nagas inhabiting the tracts bordering on the Sibsagar district. The inhabitants of these hills visited the plains in larger numbers than usual, a few villages being conspicuous by the absence of their representatives. An attempt was made during the year to settle the longstanding dispute between Banfara and Joboka, and the headmen of these villages promised to submit their quarrel to the arbitration of the powerful village of Changnoi, but up to the close of the year, no steps in the matter had been taken by the Changnoi Chief. The history of these tribes is a continuous narrative of feuds and outrages among themselves.
