The house-tax demand in the past year was Rs.30,283, against Rs.28,295 in the previous year. There has been an increase of 8 villages and 850 houses brought under assessment, as compared with 1883-84, and every tribe has contributed to the increase of this tax. The Kukis living in the south-west corner of the district have for the first time been brought under assessment in the past year. |

The house-tax and land revenue demand taken together amounted last year to Rs.30,283, or nearly double the demand of the year 1880-81. The entire revenue demand was collected without difficulty. In the Wokha sub-division it was brought by the headmen to the sub-divisional officer while encamped at different central points; elsewhere it was collected from each village separately. |

The excise revenue demand for the year amounted to Rs.5,985 as compared with Rs.5,295 in 1883-84 and Rs.2,328 in 1882-83. The increase occurs almost entirely under opium. There was no increase in the number of opium shops, but the seven shops of the district fetched higher prices at auction, owing to their having been sold at Kohima instead of at Golaghat. The whole of the revenue demand was realised within the year. |

Elephant-'mahals' realised Rs.2,500 in license-fees, as against Rs.1,499 last year. Rs.2,400 were paid as royalty on captured elephants, as against Rs.3,900 last year, but large sums are outstanding for royalty, Rs.2,950 from 1883-84 and Rs.2,400 from 1884-85. |
