The sanctioned strength of the Frontier Police Force of the Naga Hills is 1 Commandant, 4 Subadars, 9 Jemadars, 43 Havildars, and 502 sepoys and buglers. The actual strength of officers at the close of the year was up to the sanctioned strength, the actual strength of sepoys was 468, of whom 25 were recruits. The year 1884-85 is the first in which the Frontier Police Force of the Naga Hills district has been brought under regular and systematic training. Hitherto, the strength of the Force has not been sufficient to garrison the outposts completely, while maintaining a large reserve at headquarters. The year under review is the first entire year during which the Force has had the benefit of a Military Commandant. The instruction given includes the manual exercise and battalion and company drill, musketry, and skirmishing. This year it has been arranged that the Force shall be visited by the Inspector of Musketry from Calcutta in his annual tour round the military cantonments of Assam. |
