text: |
The other cases against Sema villages in which action was taken during the year were all at the instance of Nankum and were brought to light during the expedition to Are. They were three in number and were against Limitsami, Chichami (Sanchang) and Mangrung respectively. |

Limitsami. This village was charged with the murder of four women and was visited on the 24th June. It was found on enquiry that Nankum had begun the feud by killing a boy of Limitsami in retaliation for which the women were murdered. The party of raiders which killed three of the women was overtaken on its way back by a body of Nankum men and seven of its number were killed. As Nankum had been the original aggressor, and Limitsami had suffered severely for taking the law into its own hands, no further punishment was imposed on it; but the gaonbura was made to show his formal submission to Government in the presence of his villagers by presenting the Deputy-Commissioner with a dao and a spear. Nankum, as above stated, was fined Rs.300. Chichami (Sanchang). This village was charged with the murder of a Nankum man and proof positive of the murder was found in the head of the murdered man stuck up outside the village gate. The gaonburas refused either to come in or to pay a fine imposed on the village and it was accordingly burnt. |

Mangrung. No positive proof was forthcoming in this case that Mangrung men had committed the murder alleged by Nankum, and the gaonburas having come in and fraternised with the Nankum men, no punishment was imposed. |
