Some Nagas of Langha village which is subordinate to the Banfera chief came down with their wives and children and settled in Baghmoriagaon, near the Sapakati garden. They said that they had left the hills because the Banfera Raja wanted to take their young girls as his ligirees (personal attendants) to which they objected. In accordance with Judicial Department Circular No.28C.T. dated the 13th March 1874, the Naga settlers were required to leave Baghmoriagaon and to live close to the Abhaypur outpost until a suitable place could be found for their residence. The mauzadar has selected a place for them to settle in and the Deputy Commissioner is making arrangements for giving them leases of waste land if they can be induced to take them. |
