59. The conduct of the Semas was on the whole satisfactory, with the exception of a fight that occurred between the villages of Rotomi and Philimi for the possession of some jhum land. The principal weapons employed were daos and sticks and only one life was lost. The case was still under enquiry by the Deputy Commissioner at the close of the year. Our relations with the Sema tribes outside the area of British control were excellent and although they are still guilty of raiding and head-taking amongst themselves, they did not attempt to commit any outrages within our frontier. Most of the chiefs came in to see the Deputy Commissioner once or twice during the year. The Sema political bridle path was repaired and the road is now open from Cheswejuma to Mokokchang. The Deputy Commissioner toured twice through the Sema political control area during the year. |
