19. On the Naga Hills frontier a punitive expedition was despatched to punish Chinglong, a trans-frontier village, for an outrage committed on certain British subjects of the village of Wanching lying within the newly-annexed area. The offending village assisted by the allied village of the Tautak group attacked and inflicted loss on the column, and this necessitated the despatch of a second and stronger force, which inflicted summary punishment on the villages concerned and secured the peace of the frontier. The Deputy Commissioner subsequently made a tour through the trans-Dikhu territory and visited all the villages in the recently-annexed area. A Military Police post has been established at Wakching in this area. |
