whereas at a view of frankpledge with court here held tuesday being 22.6.1568 Rich Parker was admitted tenant of the lord for himself and his heirs to two crofts of land lying next to Wildefeilde whereof one croft contains 6a2r of land and the other croft of land contains 3a2r of land and is now built upon with a certain lane pertaining to the same which leads from the king's highway leading from Earls Colne towards Coggeshall as it is clearly divided and shown by the metes and bounds and to one aldercarr containing 7a of land parcel of an aldercarr of the lord called Oxen Fen as it is clearly divided and shown by the metes and bounds as by a roll of the same said court here in court produced examined and clearly shown now at this court it is shown by the homage that the aforesaid Rich died after the last court and before his death he surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Hen Chancie instead of the bailiff in the presence of Thos Smithe and Robt Crowe two customary tenants the same testifying according to the custom of the aforesaid manor all and singular the aforesaid premises with their appurtenances to the use and behoof of his last will and testament the tenor of which testament in the following english words item I will and give to Rich Parker my son my house and land belonging to the manor of Colne Priory to him and his heirs upon this condition that he shall suffer his mother to enjoy the one half of the said commodity during his minority and if he do refuse so to do then my will is that then she shall hold and enjoy the house with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging and to pay the said Rich my son 5li a year during his minority upon the demised premises item I will that if my wife shall marry again that then my son shall enter of the demised premises as aforesaid to him and his heirs and assigns forever and my wife to be void and frustrate of all the demised premises within six months after her marriage or solemnity as by his aforesaid testament here in court produced and shown bearing the date 4.3.1611 approved under the seal of the ordinary for this area it is clearly shown and appears now to this court came the aforesaid Rich Parker and sought for himself admittance to the premises according to the aforesaid surrender to whom the lord by his steward granted thereof seisin to have to him and his heirs to hold from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the aforesaid manor by the rents and services thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and he gave to the lord his fine altogether as is shown in the margin
40li and fealty was respited until etc and because the aforesaid Rich Parker is under age viz aged 16yrs or thereabouts therefore custody both of his body and all the aforesaid lands was committed to Margt Parker his mother to have to her and her assigns until his age of twenty one years then he should have the rents and profits and accounts and meanwhile to find for him food and clothes and all other necessaries whatsoever and the aforesaid Margt present in court came and sought for herself admittance thereof to whom the lord by his steward granted thereof seisin to have to her and her assigns during the minority of the aforesaid Rich from the lord by the rod etc by the rents and services thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and she made fealty to the lord and her fine for such custody was pardoned by the lord
