it was shown above by the aforesaid homage that Jn Middleton senior out of court namely 25.4.1623 surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Simon Ive instead of the bailiff in the presence of Thos Smith senior and Nath Kinge two customary tenants of this manor the same testifying according to the custom of the aforesaid manor one tenement or cottage lately built parcel of a tenement called Sadlers and a certain yardroom adjoining to the same tenement one half thereof divided and tenanted at the expense and upkeep of the aforesaid Jn Middleton senior and the other half at the expense and upkeep of the aforesaid Jn Middleton junior the yardroom containing in length from the elm growing next to the kings highway leading from Colne towards Colchester as far as the fence of Thos Smith tanner upon the western side 5rod13ft6i and upon the eastern side from a certain stable now built there 3rod and three quarter or thereabouts and in breadth upon the northern side joining the said kings highway 1rod and a half or thereabouts and upon the southern side adjoining the aforesaid yardroom of Jn Middleton senior 3rod and a half or thereabouts to the use and behoof of the said Jn Middleton junior the elder son of the aforesaid Jn Middleton senior and his heirs forever to whom the same said Jn Middleton junior present here in court the lord by his aforesaid steward granted and delivered thereof seisin by the rod to have to himself and his heirs to hold from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the aforesaid manor by the rents customs and services thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and he gave to the lord fine and fealty and was admitted etc
