at this court it was shown by the homage that Edw Somerson customary tenant of this manor after the last court and before this court viz 14.11.1636 surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Jn Chaplyn gentleman instead of the bailiff in the presence of Sam Burton senior and Giles Crow two customary tenants of the aforesaid manor the same testifying according to the custom of the aforesaid manor all that customary tenement called Burtons or by whatever other name it is called or known with appurtenances lying in Earls Colne to the use and behoof of the said Edw Somerson and Kath his wife for their lifetimes and to the longer liver and after their decease to the use and behoof of Rich Burton one of the sons of the said Sam Burton and the heirs and assigns of the said Rich Burton forever
