at this court it is shown by the homage that Jane Clench widow customary tenant of this manor after the last court and before this court viz 12.4.1637 surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Nath Browne instead of the bailiff in the presence of Edw Cressner and Ambrose Waller two customary tenants of the aforesaid manor the same testifying according to the custom of the aforesaid manor one messuage or customary cottage lately built and 20a of land more or less called Sandhills to the use and behoof of Edw Clarke and Wm Brand and their heirs and assigns forever upon this consideration however and with this intent that the aforesaid Edw Clarke and Wm Brand their heirs and assigns should allow Rich Harlakenden esq lord of the aforesaid manor and his heirs to receive and retain the rents and profits of the aforesaid messuage and other premises and that the aforesaid Edw Clarke and Wm Brand their heirs and assigns should make such surrenders and legal assurances concerning the premises to such person or persons whom the aforesaid Rich Harlakenden or his heirs nominate or appoint upon which they came here into court the aforesaid Edw Clarke and Wm Brand and sought admittance to whom the lord by the aforesaid steward granted and delivered thereof seisin by the rod to have and to hold the aforesaid messuage and 20a with appurtenances to the aforesaid Edw and Wm and their heirs upon the aforesaid consideration and the aforesaid intention from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the aforesaid manor by the rents services and customs thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and fine etc and the fine was pardoned
