Mary Brand to a parcel of Gosfenn | whereas at a court here held 17.4.19Chas1 Wm Brand took for himself and his heirs by copy of a court roll three crofts of land containing by estimation 7a with appurtenances called Gosfenn or by whatever other name it is called divided from the rest of the said Gosfenn and whereas at the said court the aforesaid Wm surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of his steward the aforesaid premises with appurtenances to the instructions and uses of his last will and testament now at this court it was shown by the homage that the aforesaid Wm Brand after the last general court died thus seised thereof upon which came into court Mary Brand widow late wife of the said Wm Brand and produced here in court the last will and testament of the said Wm bearing date 1.8.1660 the tenor of which concerning the premises in the following english words first I give and bequeath unto Mary my well beloved wife all my three parcels of copyhold lands with their and every of their appurtenances called by the name of Gosfenn also Gosses all holden of the manor of Colne Priory by copy of court roll containing by estimation 7a be they more or less lying and being in the several parishes of White Colne and Colne Engaine in the said county of Essex for and during the term of her natural life and upon this the aforesaid Mary sought admittance as tenant of the lord for the premises to whom the lord by the aforesaid steward granted and delivered thereof seisin by the rod to have and to hold the aforesaid three crofts of land with appurtenances to the aforesaid Mary for her lifetime from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the aforesaid manor by the rents services and customs thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and she gave to the lord for a fine etc |
