August: 15: This week the lord was merciful to me and mine in our health, plenty and in abundance of outward mercies, wanting no necessaries in these exceeding dear and scarce times; and in times of great sickness and illness, agues abounding more than in all my remembrance, last year and this also, fevers spotted rise in the country, whether it arise from a distempered and infected air I know not, but fruit rots on the trees as last year though more, and many cattle die of the murrain, this portends something: the lord merciful unto me in giving me some apprehension of my vanity and taking of from those delights that my heart contemplated on, making them many times a burden unto me, when my thoughts are bending towards them. the lord was good to me in the duty of the Sabbath. in the word, the lord make it profitable to me and those that hear the same for thy names sake:.
