22. reported that Cromwell was dead, the Lord lives, and reigns, and depends not on any instruments for his work, and this was my meditation, and gods appointing Joshua to succeed Moses to lead them into Canaan whereas Israel was making them a captain to return into Egypt, when as Moses was in the mount, but a few days, and the promise of god was to me he would not fail me nor forsake me, and my intimation to my heart continued, god would preserve me amidst all these storms. at night our news came, and Major Haynes letter of 8. of March, which said the Gen. was sick and could not be spoken with.
